EXHIBITIONS

Exhibitions are an integral part of our mission to celebrate art in our community. We feature our unique UNESCO International Collection of Child Art, as well as the work produced in our classes and workshops, in numerous exhibits throughout the year. Many of our programs, like LAs BEST and Project Ragan, culminate in on-site displays.

The Main Concourse at Kaiser-Sunset Hospital is our primary exhibition site. We install two exhibits annually. Since the building opened in 2009, hundreds of thousands of people have viewed our installations there. We also feature student work at our studio during the semi-annual Brewery Art Walks. In the past our ICAC and student work have been displayed at the Bridge Gallery in LA City Hall, the Pasadena Civic Center, and Children’s Hospital as well as in other corporate and civic institutions.

THAILAND: THROUGH THE EYES OF CHILDREN

AFRICA: THROUGH THE EYES OF CHILDREN

Barnsdall Arts Presents An Exhibition Of Children's Art From Sub-Saharan Africa. The Work Was Selected By Unesco For Our International Child Art Collection Over 50 Years Ago. Special Projects On Traditional African Arts And Culture Were Conducted For Students And Families In Our Programs. Examples Of Their Work Are Displayed.

JAPAN: 1000 CRANES

A Tribute to the Children of Japan: Art from Japan In the Barnsdall International Child Art Collection and Project 1000 Cranes These cranes were on display together with the Barnsdall Arts UNESCO International Child Art Collection of Japanese artwork. Over 100,000 people viewed this exhibit. The Los Angeles/Nagoya Sister City Affiliation (LANSCA) "flew" the cranes to Nagoya in April 2012 to mark the second anniversary of the tragedy. 

CHINA: IN THE YEAR OF THE DRAGON

Barnsdall Arts in collaboration with the Los Angeles Guangzhou Sister City Association presents an exhibition of outstanding work collected by UNESCO in China almost 50 years ago with work specially created for this exhibit in 2012 by children studying in Guangzhou's Children's Palace. The works depict China seen through the eyes of children. The huge changes of the last half century are evident in the changes in style and subject.

INDIA: THROUGH THE EYES OF CHILDREN

Barnsdall Arts presents an exhibition of outstanding children's art collected by UNESCO almost 50 years ago with work created for this exhibit by students in our sister city Mumbai in 2013. The works depict India seen through the eyes of children. Extraordinary use of color, diverse media & strong roots in Indian folk and traditional arts are evident both in UNESCO and contemporary Images.

KOREA: THROUGH THE EYES OF CHILDREN

Barnsdall Arts presents an exhibition of outstanding children’s art from Korea. UNESCO selected the work for our International Child Art Collection almost 50 years ago. This exhibition celebrates the Korean heritage. As a special project, our Los Angeles students learned about Korean traditional arts and culture and created work for the exhibit.

 

 

 

MEXICO: OLE!

Barnsdall Arts presents an exhibition of Mexican artwork from our UNESCO International Child Art Collection combined with projects created by our students in Los Angeles. We celebrate the Mexican community which has enriched our city with its rich cultural heritage of folk and traditional arts.


International Child Art Collection (ICAC)

ICAC consists of a global collection of artworks originally created by children from fifty countries for UNESCO and now used for exhibitions and as a teaching tool in conjunction with the Artist-in-Residency Program. ICAC presents pictorial themes that are similar around the world: family, friends, animals, festivals, celebrations, work and play. We compare the differing sensibilities of diverse cultures expressing universal human experiences.

BREWERY ARTWALK

Barnsdall Arts maintains a studio at the Brewery; we participate in the bi-annual Brewery Art Walks. Every Fall and Spring we showcase the work done in our artist-in-residence programs, Project Ragan and work from our UNESCO International Child Art Collection.

UNESCO International Child Art Collection: Shelter

Barnsdall Arts presents an exhibition selected from its UNESCO International Child Art Collection augmented with work from our students in Los Angeles. Shelter is a universal human need. Our exhibit displays images created by children depicting shelter in rural and urban settings around the world.
